How to Secure Your Child's Social Media Account, Side by Side
Whether it's a teen's first account or an aging parent's, the safest way to secure it is with them sitting next to you, tapping the buttons on their own phone while you coach.

Every step routes to the platform's own security settings and help center.
No password ever
We never ask for, see, or store a password or login code.
Owner stays in control
The account holder is present and taps every button on their own device.
Consent-first: if the person isn't present and willing, this isn't the page for you.

Secure their account together in 5 steps
1
Sit down together
Do this on their phone with them holding it — you coach, they tap and confirm.
2
Turn on their 2FA
Open the app's Security settings and switch on two-factor with an authenticator app or text code.
3
Save backup codes on their device
Store the recovery codes in their password manager or a safe spot they control.
4
Review who's signed in
Check active sessions and sign out any device neither of you recognizes.
5
Add official family pairing (optional)
If they agree, link a tool like TikTok Family Pairing that you both set up in the open.
Have ready: their unlocked phone, their current password (they type it, not you), and about 10 minutes.
We never ask for a password or login code
Not theirs, not yours — every step uses the platform's own official login. If any site asks us for one, it's a scam.
We don't store or handle credentials
Backup codes and passwords stay on your family member's device, in their control — never on ours.
No covert monitoring, ever
This is opt-in security done in the open. The account holder sees and confirms everything you do together.
Official tools only
We point to Instagram, TikTok, X, and LinkedIn's own help centers — never third-party 'access' or 'unlock' tools.
FAQ
Is this the same as monitoring or spying on my kid?
No — this is the opposite of covert monitoring, because your child is present and taps every setting on their own device, and secretly installing spyware to read someone's account is both harmful and often illegal.
My teen doesn't want me to see their password. Is that a problem?
Not at all — they should type their own password themselves and you never need to see it, because turning on 2FA and reviewing sessions works while they authenticate on their own screen and you simply guide them through the menus.
Can I help my elderly parent secure their account if they struggle with the steps?
Yes, you can sit beside them and walk through each screen while they tap and confirm, so the account stays fully in their own control even though you are coaching the buttons.
What if their account is already hacked before we start?
If they are locked out or see activity they don't recognize, start with each platform's official recovery flow first, and turn on 2FA together only once they are safely back in control of the account.
Do I need a family-pairing or supervision app for this to work?
No — the core protections of 2FA, backup codes, and reviewing signed-in devices work on any account without pairing, and tools like TikTok's Family Pairing are an optional extra that both of you opt into openly.
